Henley Royal Regatta

Antonia and her women’s quadruple scull (Upper Thames Rowing Club) reached the final of the Princess Grace Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta this weekend. In the heats on Friday morning, they beat Mortlake, Anglian and Alpha by a verdict of two feet, giving the crowds a bit of excitement in the closing stages of the race. On Saturday, they overcame Imperial College to win by a length and set up a final against the Great Britain lightweight quad who are preparing for the World Championships in two weeks’ time. Racing full time athletes who train together twice a day proved a big ask for, ahem, slightly more mature ladies who run their own businesses and work ungodly hours. We gave a good account of ourselves at the regatta, and did Upper Thames proud by being the first crew in the club’s history to reach a Henley Royal final.

Onwards to the National Championships of Great Britain, where we hope to bring back some hardware.
